Westie-Lindy Crossover Lessons

    Join us for Westie-Lindy Crossover Lessons with Mo and Bridget!

    One hour lesson followed by crossover social with instructors.

    Cost: $10/$8 students 
    

Pre-requisite(s): Students should have at least a beginner-level knowledge of East Coast, Lindy Hop, or West Coast Swing.

    For the next month, Vermont Swings and 802 Westie will be teaming up for the crossover event local dancers have been asking for! ALL SWING DANCERS WELCOME! We want you from the East, the Westie, and the Lindy that started it all. Join Mo and Bridget for the next four weeks to learn how whether you rock or walk, your triple will always swing. This special community collaboration event will cover the shared components of all swing dances, such as groove, partnering, and blending 6 and 8 count, just to name a few. This series will give you the confidence to step onto the floor with any kind of swing dancer, so we’ll see you Thursday nights this January!



    On Saturday, January 26th, join us for our Saturday Night 802 Winter Crossover Dance! 7:30 - 10:30 PM, $5 admission.  

    Please bring a change of clean, soft-soled, non-marking shoes to protect your knees and our wooden dance floor. Outside shoes are NOT permitted on the dance floor, especially during the winter months.

Beginning Swing (6-count)

    Learn the basics of Swing Dance with Juliana and Eric! Swing dance is a street dance – it is sheer fun and energy; a combination of connection and athletics. This energetic class will liven up your week with rhythms from the Roaring 20’s through WWII era Big Band Jazz - Creativity encouraged!

    Cost: $40/person for the 4-week series (no drop-ins). 

    This is a progressive series, we will learn concepts that build on each other from week to week. No Partner necessary.  Please no drop-ins after the first class without instructor permission.

    Prerequsites: No previous dance experience required; these classes are suitable for dancers of all levels.

    Please bring a change of clean, soft-soled, non-marking shoes to protect your knees and our wooden dance floor.

Intermediate Swing Charleston - Tandem

    Students should be familiat with the basicswing Charleston step (8-count side by side step). This version of swing is commonly interspersed with East Coast (6-count) and Lindy Hop (8-count) swing dancing. Terry and Cate will teach tandem Charleston figures (where the leader and follower are lined up one behind another while holding hands).

    Cost: $40/person for the 4-week series.

Beginning Lindy Hop

    Lindy Hop, the original swing dance, came out of the African-American communities in Harlem during the 1920s and inspired by the jazz music developing around the same time. 

    Join Mo & John for a Beginning Lindy Hop series in January! Whether you’re brand new to swing dancing or have some experience, we’ll be covering beginning triple-step moves while focusing on understanding connection and developing good technique to help you learn how to dance confidently with any partner!

    Cost: $10/$8 students for each class or $40/$32 for the 4-week series. Includes FREE entry into the Tuesday Practice Sessions for January! Repeating students $5 per class!

    Prerequsites: No previous dance experience required; these classes are suitable for dancers of all levels.

    No partner necessary.

Beginning Lindy in WATERBURY!

    Vermont Swings travels to Waterbury!

    (NOTE: Please contact Grange Hall Cultural Center to pre-register.)

    This class will provide an introduction Lindy Hop swing dance, a fun social dance that is most often associated with Jazz and Big Band Music from the 1920s to 1940s. Instructors Maria Garrido and John Antram of Vermont Swings will teach a variety of moves and techniques to get you moving on the dance floor. This course is designed to be progressive so we will learn new moves building on the skills of the previous week. We will teach you the basics of the dance, rhythm, and movements to have you dancing with any partner by the first night and help you develop skills to use in any social dance environment from clubs to weddings and beyond!
    • No partner or previous dance experience required; these classes are suitable for dancers of all levels.
    • Please bring a change of clean, soft-soled, non-marking shoes to protect your knees and our wooden dance floor.
    • Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early to the first class to register and sign-in.


    FEE:
    $80 for four-class series; $25 for drop-ins (as space allows). Space is limited. To pre-register, email grangehallcc@gmail.com or call (802) 244-4268. This class is part of the Grange Hall Cultural Center's Winter Workshop Series and discounts are available for multiple course participants.
