Blues dancing is a family of dances and moves that developed alongside blues music in the late 19th- and early 20th-century, as well as modern dances performed in the same aesthetic. More than just "dancing to slower music," Blues dancing is strongly rooted in African-American folk traditions and emphasizes creativity, rhythm, and a deep connection to the music and one's partner.

This beginner-friendly series is designed for dancers of any level wishing to understand the fundamentals of partner dancing within the Blues genre. * Each class will introduce different dances and moves, but will build upon earlier material.

This weekly class will be followed by a 1.5 hour open Blues dance/practice starting at 7:30. Students in the Beginning Blues class can attend practice session for free. Pre-requisite:: No dance experience or partner necessary. Please no street shoes; bring a change of clean, soft-soled, non-marking shoes to protect our wooden dance floor.
