Whether your New Year's resolution is to do more things that make you happy, or increase your physical activity level, learning to swing dance is great for both increasing joy and fitness in your life! This class is an introduction to swing dance, also known as Jitterbug, Rock'n'Roll, 6-count/East Coast Swing, a fun and energetic social dance, which was created by African-Americans during the Harlem Renaissance of 1920-40s Jazz and Big Band Era, and is also danced to 1950s rock'n'roll through contemporary music.

John and Jean Elizabeth will teach the basic footwork and rhythm, as well as individual and partner skills and connection within a variety of moves. The goal of this class is to have you dancing with confidence in any social dance setting from clubs to weddings, and wherever music can be found! It is also the first step to prepare you for taking other swing dance classes, such as Lindy Hop, Charleston or higher level swing classes requiring this foundation.

This class is progressive and each week will build upon the previous week's content; no drop-ins after the first class without the instructor's permission.

Singles and couples alike are welcome, no partner or previous dance experience necessary. This class is suitable for dancers of all levels: If you've taken this class before as a follow or lead, try taking it as the other role!

Cost: $40 general/$32 student for the 4-week series (can be paid $10/$8 per week) and includes FREE entry into the weekly Practice Session after the class.

Please bring a change of clean, no/low-tread, non-marking shoes to protect your knees and our wooden floor.

Being able to move and dance by ourselves lets us have fun without a partner, and have even more fun with a partner! We’ll work on some classic solo jazz moves and get used to shifting our weight, moving our feet and dancing in new ways. We’ll talk about how these moves might show up in swing dancing, but this class is also appropriate for people who have never taken swing dance before.

Teachers: Sarah King and Maria Garrido

    Cost: $10

Please bring a change of clean, soft-soled, non-marking shoes to protect your knees and our wooden dance floor.
