Classes & Workshops
What class should I take?
Beginning Swing is different every month. You will learn swing dance footwork, rhythms and partner connection, and we will build your dance skills throughout the month. We encourage people to take these classes for 1-6 months.
Other classes expect you to be familiar with the skills learned in Beginning Swing. If you are not sure if you are ready for a class, check in with the instructor or email us to ask. Our other classes include a rotation of Lindy Hop Fundamentals, Continuing Lindy Hop and Special Topics (like Charleston, Collegiate Shag or Solo Jazz)

This three-week series focuses on the signature move of Lindy Hop - the swing out! We'll get comfortable with 8 count footwork and learn the connection and momentum that make swing outs exhilarating. Whether you've worked on swing outs before or they're brand new for you, this class will help you hone your skills. We highly recommend dancers take this class several times to build a strong lindy hop foundation. Or if you’ve been dancing for years, this a great opportunity for a tune up!
Prerequisite: 3-5 months of beginning swing, or instructor approval. You should be comfortable with the triple step, the basics of swing partner connection, and common moves like an underarm pass or tuck turn. Unsure you're ready? Just ask a Vermont Swings instructor at any upcoming event.

Rock 'n Roll Swing - Tuesdays December 7pm
Tuesdays Dec 3 - Dec 17
7:00pm - 8:00pm
- Click Here For Class DescriptionThis class is a THREE-week series teaching the basics and a variety of fun swing figures from the 1950's Rock 'n' Roll era. As popular music evolved, so too did swing dance, from the original Lindy Hop into many different regional styles. Note that this class is NOT the Boogie Woogie, or competitve sport known as acrobatic Rock 'n Roll done in Europe. This is the social swing dance as it was danced in Vermont in the 1950s and beyond.Prerequisite: This class does NOT require any ability with Lindy Hop swing-outs, 8-count footwork, or triple steps. However the student must already have mastered and be comfortable with the moves and skills taught in the Beginning Swing class, including six-count footwork and lead & follow skills.
