Classes & Workshops

Check out our current and upcoming dance classes listed below. Students taking any weekday class can attend our Weekly Tuesday Open Dance for FREE.

What class should I take?
Beginning Swing is different every month.  You will learn swing dance footwork, rhythms and partner connection, and we will build your dance skills throughout the month.  We encourage people to take these classes for 1-6 months.
Other classes expect you to be familiar with the skills learned in Beginning Swing.  If you are not sure if you are ready for a class, check in with the instructor or email us to ask.  Our other classes include a rotation of Lindy 1, Lindy 2, and Special Topics (like Charleston, Collegiate Shag or Solo Jazz)

HOW TO REGISTER
Most of our classes do not require pre-registration, but it sure helps us plan better if you do! Be a pal and use the Sign Me Up form to pre-register for a class.
WHEN, WHERE, WHO
Please come fifteen minutes early to the first class for sign-in, shoe-changing and orientation. Most classes take place at the North Star Community Hall in Burlington. No partner is necessary to attend any class.
WHAT TO WEAR
Please wear comfortable clothes that allow freedom of movement and bring clean shoes with non-marking soles. Outside shoes, especially winter ones, cannot be worn on the dance floor.


Charleston

    Just as swing dancers need to get comfortable with both 6 and 8 count patterns, Charleston is a key foundation to conversational swing dancing. Come join this beginner class and learn the integrating of Charleston into the swing patterns you already know!


    This is a series class. Please plan to start July 1st and come the whole month! No partner necessary.

Two Hour Lindy 2- Deep Dive!

    Ready to go beyond Lindy 1? Join us for an exciting new two hour class dedicated to Lindy 2! This class is designed to give you the time and space to dig deeper into the moves, music, rhythms, and culture of Lindyhop with Lindy 2. This series is designed to give you the time and space to dig deeper into the moves, music, rhythms, and culture of Lindyhop with Lindy 2. With double the usual class time, we'll move at a comfortable pace that allows for more context, details, individual feedback, extended practice, and plenty of time to ask questions. This 4 - week class is a drop-in format so you can join whenever it works for your summer schedule.

    If you’ve completed Lindy 1 and are comfortable with eight-count footwork and able to do a swing out from open, swing out from closed and lindy circle, this class will be a great start to learning Lindy 2.

Beginning Swing Series

    In this class you'll learn the basics of swing dancing. You'll get moving to big band and swing music, learn how to communicate through lead and follow connection and get lots of practice with 6 count footwork. This class is great for beginning level swing students with any amount of experience (or no experience). We'll make sure to do something a bit different than last month so there will be something new for repeating students too!

    Join some dance instructors on hand to give you tips and answer questions about swing dancing; this is a great time come on out for some feedback about your dancing or also just join us for great swing music to dance to with your friends at Vermont Swings.
